Charles Cummings

Instructor, U.S. History: Florida Virtual Schools, Florida

Charlie Cummings teaches U.S. History at the Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a fully accredited online K-12 school that serves students in the state of Florida and beyond. FLVS provides each and every student with a individualized learning experience and, as Charlie works to provide this individualised experience, he relies heavily on tailoring assessment feedback to communicate learning objectives and goals to each and every student. Whether he is focused on the nature of or the content of a student’s writing, Charlie’s feedback is geared towards developing better writers and enabling content mastery of US History.

To do this, Charlie relies on Turnitin Feedback Studio to provide personalized feedback to students on their writing and pairs that feedback with one-on-one virtual assistance to learners who struggle with composition and research in his course. In an effort to further enhance the composition and research skills of his students, Charlie has developed an HTML5-based tool that guides students on incorporating information from wikis and has also developed a separate set of native apps in iOS and Android that can help students with paraphrasing. These tools help Charlie provide individualized instruction to all of his students, regardless of their location.
