Reider Hernández Huanca

Student: TECSUP, Peru

“When I first started studying, I wasn’t a good writer. I then became better and now I’ve leveled up in my learning career. I write better reports now and get a lot of constructive feedback from my teachers. I’m better at writing and quoting, referencing and paraphrasing whenever I have to give my opinion on something. It’s not only me - my classmates are better at writing as well.”

Nominated for the award by his professor, Elisa Montoya Cantoral, TECSUP student Reider Hernández Huanca feels that using Turnitin in the classroom, coupled with his professor’s feedback, has helped him learn to effectively quote, paraphrase, write and present arguments.

“[Reider] showed remarkable progress in the acquisition of skills in the area of Communication thanks to a simple and easy tool, made even more effective with teacher support. The work improved markedly in the quality of writing, and in the coherence and consistency of writing,” said Elisa.

Now that Reider has finished his second year of a three-year program, he looks back at his first semester and recognizes the value in developing solid writing skills early on. The teachers in subsequent years are strict with writing and presenting theoretical frameworks, he says, and had he not learnt this process early on it would be much more difficult to excel in his studies.
