Turnitin for iPad is liberating. I can sit on the couch and comfortably grade essays, while still giving students really good feedback. The offline grading mode is great, too. I definitely plan on using it going forward.

I am an instructor using TurnitinUK, how do I log into Turnitin for iPad?

  4. Tap the "Service" field

Why don’t I see the marks that I left using my computer?

If you don’t see your grading marks when you the view the student's work in Turnitin for iPad or you don’t see the marks you have left on the iPad when you the view the student's work to grade, your iPad may not have synched. To tell Turnitin for iPad to sync:

  1. Check to be certain that your iPad is online (try going to a new page in Safari)

What features are available in Turnitin for iPad? Do I need to do anything through Turnitin directly?

Turnitin for iPad is designed to allow Turnitin instructors to view student submissions in OriginalityCheck and use GradeMark to leave feedback from their iPads. With Turnitin for iPad you will be able to:

  • View work that has been submitted to assignments
  • Add QuickMark comments to student submissions
  • Add in line text comments to submissions
  • Add bubble comments to submissions
  • Convert bubble comments to QuickMark comments
  • Mark submissions using rubrics that have been previously attached to assignments
  • Leave Voice Comments on submissions
  • Leave general comments on submissions
  • Add and change grades for submissions
  • See the Originality Report content match overview list of sources for submissions
  • See glimpses for content matches on submissions
  • See the full source view for sources of content matches

Class management, assignment management, and submissions must be performed through Turnitin directly or through the Turnitin integration in your LMS.

How can I check a submission for originality using Turnitin for iPad?

To view matches in Turnitin for iPad:

  1. Tap on the OriginalityCheck button at the top right of the student submission

I have more questions. How can I contact Turnitin support?

Please visit our Help Center.

How do I logout of Turnitin for iPad?

To log out of Turnitin for iPad:

  1. Navigate to the assignment inbox screen in Turnitin for iPad (the button in the upper left will say “Assignments”)
  2. Tap on the user profile button in the upper right (it will look like the outline of a head)
  3. Tap the “Unlink iPad from Turnitin” button

If you logged in to the app with an access code or added a class with an access code, unlinking the iPad will cancel those class access codes. You will need to regenerate access codes for your classes from within your LMS before signing in to Turnitin for iPad again.

What do I do if I lose my iPad while signed into Turnitin for iPad?

The latest versions of Turnitin for iPad requires users to set a four digit passcode. If you navigate away from Turnitin for iPad or if your iPad goes to sleep while in Turnitin for iPad, you will need to reenter the passcode to gain access to your account. If the password is entered incorrectly five times, you will be logged out of your Turnitin account on Turnitin for iPad. If you lose your iPad, who ever finds your iPad would not be able to access your Turnitin account without your passcode or your Turnitin login credentials.

For general security in your iPad, we recommend using the passcode lock feature Apple offers on the iPad (found under the General settings in your iPad’s device settings). That will require a passcode to be entered to wake up your iPad whenever it goes to sleep and should keep anyone from being able to access any of your information (i.e. email or Turnitin for iPad papers).

Apple also offers the ability to remotely delete data from your iPad. An Apple support document regarding this can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2701

LMS Integration Users

I use Turnitin through an LMS (e.g. Blackboard, Moodle, ANGEL, Sakai, D2L, etc.) or other integrated system. Can I use Turnitin for iPad to grade and leave feedback on my student’s papers?

Yes. Instructors who use Turnitin through an LMS can use Turnitin for iPad by generating a unique class access code from inside the document viewer and logging into the app using the class access code.

How do I generate a class access code?

As an integration user, you will need a unique class access code in order to log in to your classes on Turnitin for iPad. To generate a unique class access code:

  1. From your computer, sign into your LMS
  2. Open the document viewer for a paper in the class
  3. Click on the iPad access button in the lower left
  4. Click “Generate code”
  5. The unique class access code will be displayed
  6. Tap the “Access Code” button on the Turnitin for iPad app login screen
  7. Type in the class access code you have generated
  8. Tap “Add”

NOTE: Class access codes are one-time use only. If you log out or “Unlink iPad from Turnitin,” you will need to generate a new access code for the class by repeating the steps above.

How do I add access codes for the my other classes in the LMS we use?

Every integration (LMS) class will have its own class access code. To access additional LMS-based classes from Turnitin for iPad:

  3. Tap the user profile button in the upper right
  4. Tap “Add class with access code”

My co-instructor gave me a class access code for our class but Turnitin for iPad won’t let me log in with it. Why?

Class access codes are one-time use only. You will need to generate your own access code for the class using these steps:

  2. Open the document viewer for a paper in the class
  3. Click on the iPad access button in the lower left
  4. Click “Generate code”
  5. The unique class access code will be displayed

  8. Tap “Add”

I have classes both through an LMS and through Turnitin directly. How can I see all of my classes in Turnitin for iPad?

  3. Tap the user profile button in the upper right
