Des Moines' journey towards software-assisted writing improvement didn’t begin with ultimatums or sales pitches; it began through an examination of where we were struggling and a dogged determination to find the right thing instead of just making do with what was well-known or widely used. Through honest, reflective conversations and an approach that focused on inquiry and experimentation, hundreds of teachers across grades 6-12 in more than eighteen different buildings learned together, explored together, and improved together with the help of Revision Assistant.

Jeremy Schwennen is the curriculum coordinator for secondary literacy in Des Moines Public Schools in Des Moines, Iowa. Born and raised in rural Iowa, he is a thirteen-year literacy leader.
