Prior to implementing Turnitin Feedback Studio, RGIT lacked a digital solution to enhance their system of similarity checking and plagiarism detection in students’ work. Ayush Gupta, Group General Manager of RGIT, describes a process whereby trainers relied on various manual tools and mechanisms. It was a lengthy process that lacked efficiency and precision.
In seeking an intuitive platform to address these shortcomings, Ayush says that Turnitin’s reputation amongst higher education and other RTOs, influenced their decision to adopt Feedback Studio: “We wanted the best, and how Turnitin’s platform works is exactly what we needed in our courses.”
ResultsRGIT has been using Feedback Studio since 2018, with a staggering 10,000+ submissions from trainers and students during the first year. Feedback Studio is harnessed in most of their programs, with particular emphasis on their Business and Leadership & Management courses.
Ayush claims the biggest impact of Feedback Studio has been in improving their confidence of genuine and authentic assessment through the Similarity Report. It supports their mission and values surrounding quality, and in turn, strengthens their industry compliance. “It’s made a difference, because that compliance criteria that RTOs face in terms of plagiarism and collusion, is something we’re far more confident about now” says Ayush.
Trainer and coordinator reactions to Feedback Studio have been positive, with Ayush noting that “trainers appreciate the formative learning opportunities it provides for students and remark on how the quality of work they submit has improved”. He thinks that the student mindset has changed, by embracing their own, genuine understanding of course content.
Feedback Studio has also been the catalyst for some staff to make the switch to wholly online grading of assessments, and it’s even helped RGIT’s readiness for the rapid shift to remote learning triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ayush believes Feedback Studio gave RGIT an advantage in adapting to remote learning delivery compared to other RTOs who didn’t have such capabilities in place.
In terms of RGIT’s future plans and thinking about how the Turnitin platform may scale with them, the sentiment is that Turnitin will be instrumental in supporting their upcoming online training delivery: “It looks as though it will be with us forever - we are going to use [the platform] long-term, and as we expand, our use of Turnitin will expand as well” says Ayush.
“In my experience, there are no plagiarism checks as accurate as Turnitin. It’s given us that broader spectrum of ensuring assessment quality and we can see how student work has improved.”
